Photographer / Artist / Sailor

Born in Colorado in the 40’s, raised in Southern California.
Grew up surfing in the 50’s-60’s around Dana Point-San Clemente.
Now lives in Newport Beach, CA   Avalon, CA. and Sedona, AZ.
Art major in High School and Jr. College. 
Developed interest in photography while a High School student of John Severson.
In class working on one of his first ‘Surfer Movies’ and start of SURFER MAGAZINE.
After High School working for Mr. Severson at his new business of SURFER MAGAZINE in Dana Point.
Early art years were in mixed media of painting and drawing.
While living in Newport Beach, CA and raising 2 children and traveling with husbands business,
photography really became a strong interest.
1978 Mary started racing sailboats.
First 5 years a Schock 525.
Then a lovely new built for her Schock 30/30 in 1983, named ‘VALENTINE.’
This name because of her birth date, Feb. 14th. 
All of her racing has been with all female crew. 
Finding the challenges of women racing together rewarding and difficult at times.
Not having enough crew weight being the biggest difficulty when it blows.
Because of love of Sail Racing the America’s Cups became of extreme interest to Mary and husband Bob.
Feb. 1987 traveling to Perth, Australia and secured a spot on the ESPN media boat, a new career was born.
Now  being part of the ‘LOUIE VUITTON Media Center’ offers Mary  many opportunities to cover all these races.
Aug. 2001 the Longpre’s went to COWES, ISLE of WIGHT, ENGLAND to cover the prestigious,
once in several life times’ experience of the AMERICA’S CUP JUBILEE.
The 150 year celebration of the AMERICA’S CUPS.
208 yachts racing for  8 days on the Solent, Mary produced 1200 photos. 


2007-2008-2009  Covered ‘SKANDIA-GEELONG Race Week in the Melbourne, Australia area.
The computer age offered wonderful opportunities in Photography and Art.
With the Digital revolution and many hours spent at the computer tweaking and maneuvering her images,
Mary has  created a mixed style of Photo/Art.
Produce GICLEE  artwork for sale.
Being a racer herself helps her to anticipate and set up shots that bring joy and excitement to her viewers.
